It is believed that in the UK, 3 quarters of a billion contact lenses a year are either flushed away or sent to landfill. It was thought that contact lenses could not be recycled but now this has all changed. Acuvue has teamed up with global recycling specialist Terracycle with the aim of preventing this waste which is contributing to environmental damage. It may be only a small step towards a better future but we believe every one of these small steps is important.
Please dispose of all your used contact lenses and their plastic packaging (whatever brand they are) in the recycling bins available in every Bill Opticians waiting room. From here we arrange to have these recycled and transformed into something shiny, useful and new.
